Nope! From the title page, click "Enter as guest" and you will taken directly to the Shop page.

That said... we strongly urge you sign up. It just takes a second and unleashes much more functionality within the app, including the ability to create your own ads, to contact sellers, etc.

Signing up is easy. From the title page click "Sign up" or if you're already in the app, click the menu button and then "Sign In". From this dialog you will have the option to "Sign in with Facebook" or optionally "Create account" using your email address and a password.
  4. How do I navigate around in the app?
Everything you need can be accessed from the toolbar as follows:
This opens the main menu. Use this to navigate to your sales (Sell), Help and other areas of the application.

  5. I'm having trouble with how something works, can I make a suggestion?

  6. I have an idea for a cool feature, can I make a suggestion?
Definitely! We'd love to hear from you. The best way is through the app by using Feedback option in the main menu.
  7. Finding Sales

  8. I don't see any sales - what gives?
It's possible there are not any sales listed in your area yet (we are a brand new service just getting started...) However, be sure your location and time period are properly set (read on...)
  9. How do I know what location it's searching in?
On smart phones, you should see the current location in the upper right of the screen. If there are currently sales shown, swipe down on the sales to reveal the current location at the top.

On larger devices and computers, the current location is indicated next to the location icon in the header.
  10. How do I specify the location to search in?
From the Shop page, tap the location icon . This will open a dialog box that allows you to specify location.

Note that if "Use current location" isn't working, or you want to search in a location different that where you are right now, tap "Specify location" and type in the city or zip code of where you would like to search.

You can also change the radius of the search to search over a broader area.
  11. My location is correct but I still don't see any sales. What should I do?
It's just possible no one in you area has posted anything yet. You may want to search on a broader date range (see next question).
  12. How do I specify the dates to search on?
YardSailr only reflects the sales in the location and date range that are specified. To change the date range setting, tap the Calendar icon . This will open a dialog with various date options. To specify a broad range of dates, use the "Custom Date Range" option to specify a range of any dates you wish.
  13. How do I locate something specific?
If you are looking for a specific type of item, open the Search from the main menu. From here you can search by category or optionally by hash tags that sellers have included in their sale and item descriptions.
  14. Messaging

  15. I found a sale that looks interesting. How can I find out more about it?
If you have questions for the seller, you can attempt to reach him or her by (a) tapping the sale to open it, (b) tapping on the seller's name (next to "Posted By"). This will open a chat window for sending a chat message.

Note - you must be signed into YardSailr to be able to contact a seller.
  16. How will I know when someone tries to contact me?
If you signed up with YardSailr and someone tries to message you two things will happen: (a) you will get an email informing you that you have a message (this can be turned off in Settings) and (b) when you open YardSailr, there will be an unread message indicator (red circle) at the top informing you you have messages.
  17. How do I reply to a message?
If you have received a message and you see the unread message indicator at the top of the screen, tap it or open the main menu and tap on "InBox". All conversations will be listed, with the unread ones highlighted in blue. Simply tap on the conversation you would like to reply to.
  18. Having a Sale

  19. I'm having a garage sale soon, how do I create an ad?
Creating an ad for your sale is simple. First you will need an account with YardSailr. (If you are not signed up yet, see the General Info section above about how to sign up.) To create a new ad for your sale, do the following:
    1. From the main menu tap on "Sell". You will be prompted to sign in if you are not yet signed in. When signed in, this will open up your list of sales (which will be empty if this is your first).
    2. Tap the button at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Fill out the form.
    4. Click check mark in upper right of screen to save.
    5. After the first time you save an ad, you will be prompted to share the ad on Facebook and/or Twitter. If you do not want to share it now, you can always share it later with the share button
    6. You are now ready to add specific items to your sale if you wish (read on).
  20. What are some tips for placing a good ad?
    • Add a description to highlight some of your best stuff, but don't be too wordy.
    • List specific items with pictures. Pictures are worth... (oh, you know).
    • Make sure the address is accurate. People will be using this to find your location.
    • List all the categories that apply to your sale. Shoppers will use categories to find you.
    • For special items not covered by categories, use hash tags in your title and/or description, e.g. "We have #legos!" Tags are also searchable.
    • Promote your ad through social media. See below for sharing on Facebook and Twitter.
  21. How do list specific items for sale?
Once you have a sale ad created, you can add specific items to it. (If you do not currently have your ad open, go to the Sell page, and tap on the ad to slide it open.)
    1. From the ad page, tap the button at the bottom of the screen.
    2. Using your mobile device, take up to 4 pictures of the item. Or alternatively, upload pictures from your desktop.
    3. Fill out title and description (optional). Note you can use hashtags here as well.
    4. Specify the amount and click the check mark in the upper right to save.
  22. I have several items in my sale, but there are a couple I always want to show at the top. Is there a way to do that?
Yes! The items are displayed in alphabetical order based on their title so if you want an item to show first, simply prefix the item title with a character that makes it sort first. For example "* Mountain Bike" will push it to the top.
  23. If I sell an item, how do I let shoppers know?
Open your ad, scroll to the item and click the item menu icon . Tap the toggle button that says "Unsold" so that it moves to "Sold". This will mark the item as "Sold" for all to see.
  24. How do I promote my Ad?
The best way is through social media. To share your ad with those in your social circles, click the share button directly from the sale list or if your ad is open, select the menu in the upper right and then select "Share Sale".

Important: If you want to share this on Twitter as well as Facebook, you will need to first connect your Twitter account. To do so, go to the main menu and tap Settings. From there click "Connect Twitter Account" and you will be prompted to authenticate your Twitter login.
  25. Can I prompt someone else's sale that I like?
Sure! Just like promoting your own ad, if you see one in the Shop list you like, click the share button and post to Facebook and/or Twitter.
